I’m halfway through my third week at university, and I think it’s safe to say: I LOVE IT! For people out there who have no idea whether university is for them or not, this post is for you!
I’m year behind, well ish as most people at uni are different ages to begin with, but what I’m trying to say is, I didn’t come to university when I was 18 like normal people. I came a year later, a year wiser and a year more organised for this kind of work. University is completely different to the A-levels we have to do in the UK. It’s easier, but it’s tougher, a bit of an oxymoron right, but it’s true. If you ask anyone about university, they will tell you the exact same thing.
The reason university is easier is because you’re focussed on one specific subject. Not like A-levels when your interests are spread around FOUR! You have a lot more time to focus on this one subject at uni, you’re given plenty of time to do your research between seminars and lectures etc. The main important thing is being organised and being able to do enough preparation for the degree.
Now, this is where it gets tough. University prides itself as being a place of learning for YOUR degree. That’s right. IT’s YOUR degree, no one else’s. If you want a 1:1 at the end of the course, then you earned it from the beginning. If you want a 2:1, you earned that too. Anything else is all down to you. You are the composer to your degree. If you want to write an epic novel and be as big as George R. R. Martin, then you gotta put in the time and effort to make that novel epic. It’s the same with a degree, going out every night with your new flatmates isn’t going to benefit your degree in any way, it certainly won’t benefit your liver, that’s for sure.
It’s probably harsh of me to say that, as I’m not living in uni accommodation, but at the end of the day, you are the person in charge of your life. You are paving down the concrete slabs along your life journey. If one of them slabs is wonky, well it’s gonna cause you to change direction.
After three weeks of uni, that’s excluding freshers which makes four, I’m happy to say I’ve found my place in the world; for the time being anyway. I feel like I am on the right track and feeling this way makes everything else better. You feel great, you feel ready, you feel like you can actually accomplish anything and maybe that’s what I’m trying to say.
There are different paths to take in life, and if you feel like you’re on the right track, stay there, keep working hard and don’t give in. You’re on the right track!![](https://i0.wp.com/i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02073/gr_2073908b.jpg)
